Single mothers & Christmas

December 24, 2009

With all of the organizations out there from holiday meals, to toys for children, to clothes for winter, I wasn’t able to find a single organization that is dedicated to the single mothers and fathers for themselves.  As a single mother myself, I often find Christmas to be a little sad, to be honest.  I don’t want to come off as being self centered, because I am not, however I think everyone deserves to open at least one gift on Christmas.

Hear me out.  Christmas is about children, everyone understands that.  However, after an entire year of working and paying the bills alone, scraping every cent you have to try and make your children’s Christmas wonderful it would be nice in my opinion to know someone out there is thinking about your happiness too.

What I’d like to do:  Start an organization to do just that.  Make sure that during the holidays the hard working mom or dad has a present to open too.  Parents are self less every single day of their lives.  They buy clothes and food for their children before they do for themselves.  We tell ourselves, we can make those shoes last another six months.  We really do not need to drink coffee or eat out every day, we do not need to get our hair done, we can do it ourselves.

Life is so very short.  One day you are here, working and one day you are not.  We don’t know when that day will be, but I think we can work to make sure that the lives of everyone can be made just a little better.
